What is a Gold Star award?

Gold Star awards is a joint venture between The Herald and First Devon & Cornwall to identify local residents who have shown selfless dedication to the community, to the welfare of others, and to helping those less fortunate than themselves.

Every month for 12 months, nominations for the awards will be judged and a monthly 'Gold Star' will be chosen to attend the glittering awards ceremony to be held in March 2010.  At the ceremony, an overall 'Gold Star of the Year' will be selected for 2009-10.

How to nominate for a Gold Star award?

If you know a special person who you think deserves a Gold Star award then please nominate them by filling in the nomination form by clicking here.

What type of person may win a Gold Star award?

Perhaps the person you would like to nominate is a carer, a fundraiser, a hero, a heroine, a campaigner or a dedicated charity worker?  'Gold Stars' will be someone who has shown above and beyond the normal compassion for other members of the community.

Tell us their story and why you think they deserve a Gold Star award by filling in this form by clicking here.

What happens if your nominee wins an award?

We will contact you and your nominee for further details and photographs so that an article can be written for The Herald and its dedicated Gold Star website.

If chosen as a monthly 'Gold Star', your nominee will be invited to the grand final to be held in March 2010 together with guests of their choice.
